Hi! I’m Carly

I’m Carly — an EMDRIA-Approved Consultant, therapist, and mentor.

I’m passionate about helping EMDR therapists not just check boxes for certification, but truly step into their confidence as trauma healers.

Through consultation, mentorship, and community, I support therapists (and future consultants!) in building a career — and a life — that feels meaningful, sustainable, and aligned.

My Journey to Becoming a Consultant

In 2019 I took my EMDR Basic Training and knew during the training that I wanted to make EMDR my speciality.

I felt like EMDR was the tool I had been wanting so badly as a therapist to give me confidence like I was actually making real change for people.

My first consultant was also a trainer in IFS and really introduced me to the power of parts work in your practice.

I had the privilege of working with some of the very best — including Katie Wine-Appleton, founder of Multiplicity of the Mind and an IFS trainer and EMDR consultant, and Laurel Thornton, founder of Whole Brain Institute and a leader in EMDR training and consultation.

Learning under Katie and Laurel gave me a deep appreciation not just for clinical excellence, but for the art of mentorship — how to guide, encourage, and empower others along their EMDR journey.

Integrating IFS and Creativity into EMDR

One thing that makes my consultation space a little different is how much I value parts work and creativity.

I have extensive training in Internal Family Systems (IFS), including trainings by Kendhal Hart, my own consultation with Katie (IFS & EMDR Consultant) and completing the IFS Circle through the IFS Institute.

I actively weave IFS into my EMDR therapy and consultation — helping therapists recognize and honor the different parts of themselves and their clients throughout the 8 phases.

I also love integrating art, creativity, and playful approaches into resourcing, treatment planning, and case conceptualization.

I believe that when we bring curiosity, creativity, and compassion into our work, EMDR becomes even more powerful — and consultation becomes a place where new ideas and deeper healing can unfold.

My Journey as a Business Owner

I didn’t learn how to run a business when I was getting my MSW.
Like most of us, I went to grad school to become a therapist — not an entrepreneur. But I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit. I loved the idea of creating something of my own — meaningful, flexible, and aligned with my values.

I joined Kelly McKenna’s, Sit with Kelly,  very first mastermind, while I was growing my group practice and working toward EMDR certification. It’s also when I started my Instagram and joined her Reels membership — pushing through the cringe of posting videos of myself. (Still cringe sometimes… but also kind of fun.)

Later, I worked with Danielle Swimm, The Entrepreneurial Therapist, whose mastermind helped me expand beyond one-on-one therapy and build a business that aligned with my passion for consultation and connection. That experience gave me the clarity, confidence, and momentum I needed to move from therapist to full EMDR Consultant — and to start building something bigger than I imagined.

Somewhere in the middle of it all, my Instagram grew into a true community — not just a platform for marketing, but a place to connect with EMDR therapists across the world. It’s become one of my favorite parts of the work: sharing honestly, building relationships, and helping other therapists feel seen and supported.

I know how overwhelming it can feel to grow your skills, connect with others, and build a business that’s truly aligned. That’s why I care so deeply about supporting EMDR therapists and CITs with both the clinical tools and the entrepreneurial mindset to create a career that works for you.

Whether you're working toward EMDR certification, expanding your EMDR skills, or stepping into your role as a Consultant-in-Training, I’m here to support you.

My approach is practical, encouraging, and community-driven — blending the solid foundation of EMDR protocol with the flexibility of parts work, creativity, and real-world clinical wisdom.

I don’t just focus on what you need to check off — I focus on helping you feel ready, grounded, and confident in your work — and if you’re building a business too, I help you build it sustainably and authentically.

A Little About Me

When I’m not consulting, you’ll probably find me with a coffee in hand, spending time with my daughter, or planning a spontaneous trip that I’m pitching to my husband (Enneagram 7 through and through!).

Living in the beautiful mountains of West Virginia, I love getting outside, exploring nature, and finding joy in the little everyday moments.

I’m a big believer in blending hard work with joy and building a career that supports your life, not the other way around.
